Between 18.12 and 16.05, the Regional History Museum-Sofia is organising the exhibition "The Middle Ages through the Eyes of Tekla Alexieva", which aims to presents a lesser-known aspect of her multi-layered work - her interpretations of historical motifs from the European Middle Ages.
Artist, writer, poet, translator, researcher, publisher - Tekla Alexieva is a true Renaissance figure with a rich and impressive creative path. Her works are well known to generations of Bulgarians who grew up with the iconic covers of the Library “Galaxy” book series, which were the main science-fiction and fantasy publications during the Socialist era. But her work goes far beyond those cult covers - from paintings, monumental murals and graphics to textile art, illustration, postage stamps and animation.
The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the way she approaches themes from the past: through careful research, precise observation of detail and a desire to build her own interpretation, rather than a literal reproduction. The presented works encompass both scientific historical illustrations and her own interpretation of "Fairy-tale Medievalism". The resulting artworks are reminiscent of medieval manuscripts and frescoes, but reflected through her characteristic style - precise, subtle, sometimes playful, always profound.
The exhibition is located in Exhibition Hall 2 under the glass domes of the Largo (Nezavisimost Square), part of the Ancient Serdica Complex, a branch of the Regional History Museum - Sofia. The exhibition opening will be held on the 18th of December at 18:30.
