Between 18.12 and 16.05, the Regional History Museum-Sofia is organising the exhibition "The Middle Ages through the Eyes of Tekla Alexieva", which aims to presents a lesser-known aspect of her multi-layered work - her interpretations of historical motifs from the European Middle Ages.
The Summer School offers basic knowledge in the field of Ancient Near Eastern Studies, a scholarly field that is also known as Assyriology. Participants will receive introduction to the basics of the Akkadian and Sumerian languages, knowledge how to work with cuneiform texts, and introduction to the history, culture and religion of ancient Mesopotamia.
In the mid 19th century, the rediscovery of ancient Mesopotamia was a huge scientific success and attracted a huge public interest. The decipherment of cuneiform shaped the basis for the field of Assyriology / Ancient Near Eastern studies, and the excavators published their adventures and discoveries in Mesopotamia in bestselling books. After this phase, the philological work began and generations of Assyriologists studied Sumerian and Akkadian texts
